I just left the Victoria branch and had to leave a review! I met Kasia and Hari, and they were both absolutely wonderful. I’m extremely scared of blood and needles—they usually make me feel sick or pass out . Hari was so gentle and reassuring while taking my blood sample, and Kasia did an amazing job keeping me distracted and helping me stay calm throughout the whole process. It’s so refreshing to meet staff who are not only professional but also genuinely kind, caring, and committed to providing excellent customer service. They made what is usually a very stressful experience so much easier for me. Thank you both for your kindness and compassion. Because of the way I was treated today, I’ll definitely be recommending the Victoria branch to anyone I know who needs blood tests done!!!!!

Component Index

What Is Included?

This profile provides a comprehensive evaluation of the primary pathways responsible for healthy blood coagulation.

Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time

The aPTT test measures the time it takes for your blood to form a clot through the intrinsic pathway.

aPTT
Clinical focus:
Detecting specific bleeding disorders, assessing pre-surgical risk, or monitoring heparin therapy.

Prothrombin Time & INR

PT and INR assess the extrinsic clotting pathway. INR provides a standardised ratio of your PT measurement.

Prothrombin Time (PT)
International Normalized Ratio (INR)
Clinical focus:
Monitoring oral anticoagulant therapy such as Warfarin, and evaluating liver function capabilities.

Systemic Application

These metrics are vital for assessing how fast your blood can respond to internal or external injury.

Pre-Surgical Screening
Cardiovascular Management
Clinical focus:
Providing doctors with baseline data to prevent excessive bleeding or dangerous clot formations.

Understanding PT, INR and aPTT

Blood clotting is a complex cascade requiring multiple proteins called factors. The aPTT and PT tests examine different parts of this cascade. If either test takes longer than normal, it may indicate a missing or defective factor, liver issues, or the active effect of blood-thinning medications. The INR is a calculation based on the PT result, helping standardised tracking for patients globally.

How To Read Your Laboratory Results

Your results will list your values alongside standard reference ranges. If a result falls outside the range, it is noted for review. Important: A single out-of-range value does not automatically indicate a medical problem. Results must be assessed in conjunction with your medical history and clinical examination.

Results Timeline: Profile metrics are typically available within 4 hours. Once your results are ready, they will be securely shared with you.

Online Trends

Most Searched Online Questions About Blood Clotting

What is a normal INR level?
For healthy individuals, an INR of around 1.0 is considered normal. For patients on specific blood thinners, the target is usually higher, commonly between 2.0 and 3.0 depending on the medical condition.

Why is coagulation checked before surgery?
Doctors need to ensure your blood can clot effectively to prevent excessive or dangerous bleeding during and immediately after a surgical procedure.

What does a high aPTT mean?
A high result means it takes longer than expected for your blood to clot. This could indicate an underlying bleeding disorder, liver disease, or the active effect of medications such as heparin.

How does the liver affect blood clotting?
The liver synthesises most of the essential coagulation factors required for the clotting cascade. If liver function is impaired, clotting times often increase.

Can diet affect my PT and INR?
Yes. Foods rich in vitamin K, such as leafy greens, can influence how certain blood thinners work and may alter INR results.
