I just left the Victoria branch and had to leave a review! I met Kasia and Hari, and they were both absolutely wonderful. I’m extremely scared of blood and needles—they usually make me feel sick or pass out . Hari was so gentle and reassuring while taking my blood sample, and Kasia did an amazing job keeping me distracted and helping me stay calm throughout the whole process. It’s so refreshing to meet staff who are not only professional but also genuinely kind, caring, and committed to providing excellent customer service. They made what is usually a very stressful experience so much easier for me. Thank you both for your kindness and compassion. Because of the way I was treated today, I’ll definitely be recommending the Victoria branch to anyone I know who needs blood tests done!!!!!

Component Index

What Is Included?

The OGTT evaluates your body’s metabolic response to a measured glucose load over a precise two hour window.

Baseline Testing

The initial measurement taken upon arrival, establishing your fasted blood sugar level before the glucose load is introduced.

Glucose 0′ (Baseline)
Clinical focus:
Evaluating baseline fasting metabolic health and potential pre-existing hyperglycemia.

Post-Load Testing

Subsequent measurements taken exactly one and two hours after consuming the specialized glucose drink.

Glucose 60′ (1 Hour)
Glucose 120′ (2 Hours)
Clinical focus:
Tracking how efficiently insulin is released and how quickly glucose is cleared from the blood.

Diagnostic Focus

The three data points provide a curve that medical professionals use to definitively diagnose metabolic conditions.

Type 2 Diabetes
Gestational Diabetes
Prediabetes
Hypoglycemia
Clinical focus:
Assessing impaired glucose tolerance and overall insulin resistance accurately.

Understanding the OGTT Curve

Unlike a simple fasting glucose test, the OGTT monitors your body actively handling a challenge. The way your levels rise and fall over the 120 minute window is vital for identifying conditions like prediabetes or gestational diabetes that might not show up on a standard fasting blood test.

Pathology Reports

How To Read Your Laboratory Results

Your results will list your blood glucose levels at the 0, 60, and 120 minute marks alongside standard reference ranges. If a result falls outside the expected range, it is noted for review. Important: A single out-of-range value does not automatically indicate a medical problem. Results must be assessed in conjunction with your medical history and clinical examination.

Results Timeline: Profile metrics are typically available within just 4 hours. Once your results are ready, they will be securely shared with you.

Most Searched Online Questions About the OGTT

What is an OGTT?
An Oral Glucose Tolerance Test measures your body’s ability to clear glucose from the bloodstream over a set time after consuming a high sugar drink.
Why is it done during pregnancy?
Pregnancy hormones can sometimes interfere with insulin function. The test checks for gestational diabetes to ensure both maternal and fetal safety.
What is prediabetes?
Prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance) is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
Will the test make me feel unwell?
Some people may feel slightly nauseous or lightheaded after the drink due to the fast and the sugar spike, but these feelings usually pass quickly.
What happens if I “fail” the test?
Abnormal results indicate insulin resistance. A doctor will typically discuss lifestyle changes, diet modifications, or medications to manage your blood sugar levels safely.
