I just left the Victoria branch and had to leave a review! I met Kasia and Hari, and they were both absolutely wonderful. I’m extremely scared of blood and needles—they usually make me feel sick or pass out . Hari was so gentle and reassuring while taking my blood sample, and Kasia did an amazing job keeping me distracted and helping me stay calm throughout the whole process. It’s so refreshing to meet staff who are not only professional but also genuinely kind, caring, and committed to providing excellent customer service. They made what is usually a very stressful experience so much easier for me. Thank you both for your kindness and compassion. Because of the way I was treated today, I’ll definitely be recommending the Victoria branch to anyone I know who needs blood tests done!!!!!

Diagnostic Focus

What is the Mineral Screen?

Your body relies on a delicate balance of minerals and electrolytes to generate energy, contract muscles, and maintain healthy cellular function. Imbalances can easily occur due to poor dietary intake, kidney disease, or digestive disorders that prevent proper nutrient absorption. This targeted 8-marker profile gives your doctor a detailed overview of your internal mineral landscape, guiding effective treatment strategies to restore optimal well-being.

Electrolyte Balance

Evaluating key electrolytes is essential for:

  • Regulating fluid and hydration levels
  • Monitoring blood pressure stability
  • Ensuring healthy heart rhythms
  • Preventing muscle cramps and spasms

Bone & Nerve Health

This test provides vital data to:

  • Assess calcium and phosphate levels
  • Investigate underlying bone disorders
  • Monitor parathyroid function
  • Evaluate unexplained nerve signalling issues

Metabolism & Toxicity

The laboratory checks trace elements to:

  • Support immune system and wound healing
  • Monitor essential antioxidant defences
  • Check for aluminium accumulation
  • Investigate profound, chronic fatigue

Component Index

What Is Included in the Screen?

By checking your circulating levels of these 8 specific minerals and elements, doctors can quickly identify if your symptoms are being caused by a correctable deficiency or a toxic excess.

1. Core Electrolytes

  • Sodium & Potassium: Vital electrolytes that maintain cellular fluid balance, regular heart function, and healthy blood pressure. Imbalances can cause severe weakness and cardiac issues.
  • Calcium & Magnesium: Essential for strong bones, nerve transmission, and regulating muscle contractions. Abnormal levels may point to kidney issues or parathyroid problems.

2. Essential Trace Minerals

  • Inorganic Phosphates: Critical for energy production, bone mineralisation, and maintaining cell function.
  • Zinc: Supports immune function, rapid wound healing, and cell growth.
  • Manganese: A trace mineral involved in bone formation, cholesterol metabolism, and antioxidant defence.

3. Toxicity Monitoring

Aluminium: While this metal is typically present in very small amounts in the environment, high levels in the blood can be associated with certain health conditions, particularly if your kidneys are struggling to filter toxins effectively, or if you have had significant occupational exposure.

Who Should Consider This Panel?

This test is highly recommended for individuals experiencing unexplained muscle cramps, profound fatigue, or unusual thirst. It is also an essential monitoring tool for those managing chronic kidney disease, digestive malabsorption disorders (such as Crohn’s or Coeliac disease), or anyone making significant adjustments to their diet or treatment plan.

Pathology Reports

How To Read Your Laboratory Results

Your comprehensive report will detail the exact serum concentration of all 8 markers, displayed alongside the healthy reference ranges. If electrolyte levels (like sodium or potassium) fall outside the optimal range, it may point to dehydration or kidney stress. Low levels of calcium or magnesium are often linked to muscle cramping and bone health risks, while elevated aluminium will be flagged for further clinical review.

Results Timeline: Your detailed mineral and electrolyte report is typically available within 15 days of your blood draw.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before the test?
No special fasting is strictly required for this screen. However, if you take daily mineral supplements, we advise waiting until after your blood draw to take them so they do not artificially spike your baseline results. Follow any specific instructions given by your referring healthcare provider.
Why is Aluminium included in a mineral screen?
While aluminium is not an essential nutrient, it is a ubiquitous environmental element that can accumulate in the body. Monitoring it alongside vital nutrients provides a more complete picture of your overall physiological stress, kidney function, and potential toxicity.
How quickly will I get my results?
Because this panel tests complex trace elements requiring specialised laboratory techniques, your comprehensive results will be securely delivered within 15 days.
Is the phlebotomy fee included in the £130.00 price?
No, the £24.00 phlebotomy service fee is separate and covers the professional process of drawing your blood at our clinic, ensuring clear pricing and no hidden costs.
What should I do if my levels are abnormal?
If your results show an imbalance, we recommend booking a GP consultation. Depending on which markers are affected, your doctor may suggest dietary changes, oral supplements, or further tests to investigate kidney or parathyroid function.

Most Searched Online Questions About Mineral Imbalances

What are the symptoms of an electrolyte imbalance?
Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium control muscle and nerve function. An imbalance often presents as severe muscle cramps, eye twitches, irregular heartbeats, profound fatigue, and unusual thirst.
How do digestive disorders affect minerals?
Conditions like Coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, and chronic diarrhoea prevent the intestines from properly absorbing nutrients from food. This can quickly lead to severe deficiencies in calcium, magnesium, and zinc, regardless of how healthy your diet is.
Why is calcium linked to the parathyroid gland?
The parathyroid glands (located in the neck) control the amount of calcium in your blood and bones. If they become overactive, they can pull too much calcium out of your bones, leading to high blood calcium levels and weakened bone density.
