I just left the Victoria branch and had to leave a review! I met Kasia and Hari, and they were both absolutely wonderful. I’m extremely scared of blood and needles—they usually make me feel sick or pass out . Hari was so gentle and reassuring while taking my blood sample, and Kasia did an amazing job keeping me distracted and helping me stay calm throughout the whole process. It’s so refreshing to meet staff who are not only professional but also genuinely kind, caring, and committed to providing excellent customer service. They made what is usually a very stressful experience so much easier for me. Thank you both for your kindness and compassion. Because of the way I was treated today, I’ll definitely be recommending the Victoria branch to anyone I know who needs blood tests done!!!!!

Diagnostic Focus

What is the Heavy Metals Screen?

Heavy metals are naturally occurring elements that can accumulate in the body over time through environmental pollution, contaminated water, or occupational hazards. While some trace elements are essential for life in small amounts, an excess can be highly toxic. This comprehensive panel accurately measures nine specific metals and trace elements to give your doctor a clear picture of your systemic toxic load, allowing for timely medical intervention or targeted chelation therapies.

Environmental Toxins

Evaluating toxic load is essential for:

  • Detecting lead from older homes/pipes
  • Monitoring mercury from diet or industry
  • Identifying arsenic from pesticides/water
  • Assessing cadmium exposure risks

Essential Trace Elements

This test also evaluates essential minerals to:

  • Check zinc for immune function
  • Monitor copper for cardiovascular health
  • Assess selenium antioxidant levels
  • Identify dangerous mineral imbalances

Symptom Investigation

The laboratory provides critical data to:

  • Investigate unexplained chronic fatigue
  • Evaluate mysterious neurological symptoms
  • Assess underlying kidney or liver dysfunction
  • Monitor patients on chelation therapy

Component Index

What Is Included in the Screen?

This profile simultaneously measures nine vital biomarkers to determine if you are suffering from toxic accumulation or trace element imbalances.

Toxic Heavy Metals

  • Lead: Common in older homes, paints, and pipes; exposure can cause significant neurological and developmental issues.
  • Mercury: Often found in certain predatory fish and industrial emissions; high levels impact kidney function and the nervous system.
  • Arsenic: A highly toxic element sometimes found in contaminated groundwater or specific pesticides.
  • Cadmium: Closely associated with industrial exposure and smoking; known to damage kidney function and bone density over time.

Essential & Industrial Trace Elements

  • Chromium: Essential for glucose metabolism, but industrial exposure to certain forms can be toxic.
  • Nickel: Used widely in alloys; an excess can cause severe allergic reactions or respiratory issues.
  • Zinc & Copper: Crucial for immune, enzymatic, and cardiovascular function; imbalances can severely affect the liver and other organs.
  • Selenium: A vital antioxidant where both deficiency and excess can negatively impact health.

Who Should Consider This Panel?

This test is highly recommended for individuals with occupational exposure (such as welders, plumbers, or factory workers), those living in areas with known environmental pollution, people undergoing clinical chelation therapy, or anyone experiencing unexplained, chronic neurological and metabolic symptoms.

Pathology Reports

How To Read Your Laboratory Results

Your comprehensive report will detail the exact concentration of each of the nine metals in your blood, measured against standard safety thresholds. Elevated levels of toxic elements like lead, mercury, or arsenic indicate significant exposure and the potential for heavy metal poisoning. For essential trace elements like zinc and selenium, the report will highlight both dangerous deficiencies and toxic excesses, allowing your doctor to guide targeted nutritional or detoxification therapies.

Results Timeline: Your specialist toxicology report is typically available within 15 days of your blood draw.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before the test?
No special fasting is strictly required for the Heavy Metals Screen. However, we advise following any specific dietary or preparation instructions provided by your referring healthcare provider to ensure the most accurate baseline readings.
How are heavy metals treated?
The primary treatment is identifying and removing the source of the exposure. In cases of severe toxicity, a doctor may prescribe chelation therapy, which involves medications that bind to heavy metals so they can be safely excreted in your urine.
How quickly will I get my results?
Because accurate toxicology screening requires highly specialised equipment and meticulous processing, your comprehensive results will be securely delivered within 15 days.
Is the phlebotomy fee included in the £258.00 price?
No, the £24.00 phlebotomy service fee is separate and covers the professional process of drawing your blood at our clinic, ensuring clear pricing and no hidden costs.
Why does it test for trace elements like zinc?
Trace elements like zinc and copper are essential for your body to function properly. However, if they accumulate to excessive levels due to occupational exposure or over-supplementation, they can become just as toxic to your liver and organs as heavy metals.

Most Searched Online Questions About Toxicology

What are the common symptoms of heavy metal poisoning?
Symptoms can be vague and develop slowly over time. They often include chronic headaches, profound fatigue, memory issues, brain fog, abdominal pain, and tingling or numbness in the hands and feet.
How does mercury get into the body?
The most common non-occupational source of mercury exposure is through the diet, specifically by frequently eating large, long-living predatory fish such as tuna, swordfish, or shark, which accumulate the metal in their tissues.
Is lead paint still a risk?
Yes. While lead paint was banned in the UK decades ago, it can still be found beneath newer layers of paint in older homes. Renovations, sanding, or degrading paint can release lead dust into the air, posing a significant risk, especially to children.
